Sport Master Class Sessions. These sessions are online workshops that are aimed at educating pupils on the additional experiences they can gain at UoG outside of their sport degrees. These talks are held by current staff or alumni students.


Session 1: An Insight into student experience... coaching style – Wednesday10th March, 09:10-10:00

FA Women’s High-Performance Centre, Coach Development Officer Abbie Sadler will discuss her coaching journey & experiences. She’ll also give an insight into the support she provides the students at the University on a regular basis, from hands-on coaching support to placement opportunities, links to FA courses and more.

Session 2: From FIFA to Athletic Club Bilbao to Bristol City: What's it really like working in professional football?  – Wednesday 17th March, 09:10 - 10:00

Professor Mark De Ste Croix will discuss his experiences in working in professional football, from conducting research with FIFA and UEFA, through to developing resources for grassroot coaches with the FA. He’ll be joined by Steve Taylor, Head of Sports Science at Bristol City Football Club Academy.

Gain insight into how student placements and internships are crucial to the relationship between Gloucestershire University and professional clubs.

Session 3: What Makes Sport Great – Wednesday 24th March, 09:00-10:00

Listen to Dr Emily Ryall, Reader in Applied Philosophy, who works with leading sports bodies advising them on good governance and ethical practice in sport. She is on the Standards, Ethics and Rules Committee for UK Athletics and has worked with Sports Resolutions, the leading body that deals with disputes on doping, selection and malpractice in sport.

Session 4: A sports therapist within professional football – Wednesday 24th March, 13:45-14:35

James Redman graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2018 and works as a Sports Therapist at Cheltenham Town Football Club. He will talk about what Sports Therapy is as a profession, his educational pathway from school, college and to university. He’ll also reflect on the unique experiences he was involved in whilst at the University of Gloucestershire and what working in professional sport is like.
