Are you 15 to 17 years-old? NCS is a four week experience that helps build your confidence and self belief so that you can take on anything in life. Live away from home, develop skills and meet amazing people. Food, accommodation and activities, all in for up to £50. (Young people wanting to attend the Summer programme must turn 16 before 31st August and not turn 18 before 31st August).
In week one, you will live away from home for a five-day residential; we visit some of the country's most popular outdoor activity and residential centres. In week two, you will embrace independent living, typically in dorms or uni-style halls. For the social action phase - weeks three and four - you will return to your local area.
Please note – our shorter spring and autumn programmes include 3 residential nights, with participants staying at home for the remainder of NCS.
On NCS, you will develop the skills that employers increasingly value: confidence, leadership and independence. NCS is a great addition to your CV. All NCS graduates receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister, and moreover, it looks great on UCAS personal statements.
What does it involve?
Phase 1 - A five-day, four-night residential based away from home with fun activities such as canoeing, rock climbing and abseiling. A chance to meet new people and enjoy some adventure, fun and freedom!
Phase 2 - A further five days and four nights in a uni-style environment where you'll develop life skills like confidence, leadership and communication to boost your CV or UCAS personal statement.
Phase 3 - Working in teams, you'll put your new skills into practice by delivering a community project of your choice. Plan, fundraise, make a difference!
Graduation - You and your mates will get together to celebrate your achievements. NCS opens up a world of opportunities, giving you exclusive access to work placements, volunteering and events.
When is it?
JULY TO AUGUST – Young Gloucestershire deliver six NCS programmes around the County.
OCTOBER HALF TERM – Is when our autumn programme delivery takes place.
The rest of the year you will find our staff popping up at a school assembly or in one of your PSHE sessions to tell you all about NCS. We also run taster sessions where you can meet other people who have signed up to the programme before you start.
